    It already has something of an explanation for it's existence. Around the time of MM3D's release Aonuma was interviewed by Game Informer and asked who or what inhabits the FD mask, Aonuma replied: "The best I can give you is just a suggestion. The best way to think about it is that the memories of all the people of Termina are inside of the Fierce Deity Mask."

    So "Fierce Deity" isn't a single entity that exists, it's a collection of memories. Given what the mask is used for I think it's likely that these memories are ones of anger and despair at Skull Kid for his actions. So basically Link is attacking Majora with the anger of the people of Termina.
