ok i understand power and wisdom, but what does the triforce of courage even do??

    It's technically never said that the Triforce of Courage gives the holder courage, or that the Triforce of Wisdom give wisdom. The Triforce of Power remained with Ganondorf when the Triforce split because it was the aspect he best identified with, which MAY mean that the other pieces generally go to Link and Zelda due to them pretty much personifying Courage and Wisdom respectively.

    There's no questioning that Ganondorf obtained great power with the Triforce of Power, but the original LoZ says that if he'd obtained both it and Wisdom then he'd gain enough power to easily rule Hyrule, which implies that the Triforce of Wisdom gives a degree of power as well, an idea which is backed up by some of Zelda's mystical powers.

    Although how much of those powers is the Triforce of Wisdom and how much is her heritage is debatable. Courage has shown to protect Link on occasion, preventing him from becoming a spirit in the Twilight realm and such. But it's abilities seem to be a more passive than the other two.
