@David Most players instinctively run to the right when they start, jumping if they get to a pit. Both of these kill Mario. I picked a single Koopa to allow the level to remain beatable if you hit it. The pits near the end were made to trick people into just running. You'd fall, but you'd know why. Players with good enough reflexes or not enough experience with Mario games are given an advantage.
