    To explain from what clayton said, the angels feed off time paradoxes by making them; in other words they send you back in time to before you were born and feed on the paradox that makes.

    You time travel to random period in the past and you live out the rest of your days out of your own time period. They don't directly kill you. As the Tenth Doctor says: "They're the most merciful of killers." In the Eleventh Doctor seasons, Weeping Angels simply snap people's necks.

    For the first appearance, it's simply to feed off the time energy that comes with sending a person back in time. For the Eleventh Doctor seasons, from what I remember, it's some sort of revenge I think. I'm trying to remember....

    To add on to what everyone else said and hopefully conclude it, it feeds off the paradox that happens when you get sent back in time. Why does it want to kill you? thats the only way it gets fed. they cannot move while something is looking at them, so they freeze. The only way to get them to stop for good is to trick them into looking at eachother. then they all freeze unless their vision blocked.
