Super Mario Maker

After playing a few random levels in the Mario challenges one comes to realize two things: 1) My miiverse friends are way above average at designing courses, and 2) Nintendo's level design is just special. Seriously, some of these are terrible. Jump down 1 of 4 holes and hope the one you picked isn't instant death? That's supposed to be fun? I'm passing more than I play to find good levels.

  • Yeah, it's pretty ugly out there.

  • And tutorial levels...So many people upload the tutorial the game makes you create the first time you play. Somewhat related, I've also noticed these geniuses uploading whatever random level pops up on the title screen as if it's their own.

  • I guess there's a good reason why they give us 100 lives - a chance to skip those levels.

Someone at Nintendo should be only working to find good stages everyday and say " Here's today 30 quality stages ". Lots of garbages gets stars and meaning it will stay. I was expecting that but not THAT much. It is unbelievable. Lost levels is hard and certainly not because there is holes everywhere and 1000 enemies in every screens.

No problems. Half of the stages were "Don't do anything" stages. It is so cool to not play when you wanna play a Mario game!!!

  • I completely agree. I always try and make real Mario stages with actual level design. Apparently most people design stages that are impossible if you don't find a hidden star. Also people need to accommodate the lack of check points with either shorter levels or generous power ups.

  • Off topic but where do you go to scan amiibo? I scanned some when I got the game but now can't find the option. On topic, I've been playing the levels Nintendo has been promoting in their emails. Let them wade thru the garbage to find some of the good ones!

  • Sure. Here is one of my more recent levels. Frozen Caverns (450E-0000-008A-0ECD) I have over 300 stars so in theory my levels are decent. Although I wish I could go back and edit some of my older levels a little.

  • Special characters are only available in the NES SMB mode. There is a mystery mushroom (with a question mark on it). Put one on the screen in the editor and tap it to specify which special character you want.

  • Just go in to the level editor, set the theme to Super Mario Bros 1, and tap your amiibo at any time. If you've already scanned them in, just place a ?-Mushroom in the level, then tap that mushroom to open up the costume screen.

  • To use the amiibo function you have to be in create mode and tap an amiibo on the nfc reader.
