Try doing a nuzlocke. 1. reset your game. 2. start your game. 3. dont trade. 4. only in pokemon. now nuzlocke rules: every pokemon you catch must be nicknamed. you have to catch the first pokemon on a route. when a pokemon faints never use it again.

    or try a wonderlocke same rules as a the one you suggested but you have to catch one pokemon per area and wonder trade it out

    it doesn't start until you get the first five pokeballs and i treat the starters as gifts and keep them but that part is up to you

    then you can trade it back out or keep it until you can use it if its your starter then send it out until you get one you can use you can do the same with doubles and ones that you get through evolution like if you get a pikachu then get a richu you can send one out if you want ( btw this is how i play it you can choose different custom rules if you want )
