    As far as I know, though using fast characters would obviously help, you're really just at the mercy of RNG. Since we do have restore points, and later FE games have map savepoints, you could make one before you start trying to fight Kishuna.

    If you'd rather not use them under most circumstances though, then I'd suggest making that the only exception to not using them. Any time I've tried to represent map savepoints by using restorepoints, I've ended up using more than I originally intended to.
