So now that I'm back to where I was prior in Dual Destinies, I wanted to take some time to talk about my revised thoughts on the first two cases and the DLC case before moving on. Not much has changed, but I wanted to mention this nonetheless. Fair warning: Spoilers for cases 1, 2, and DLC of Dual Destinies ahead, if you haven't completed them, I advise not reading on. Continued in the comments.

  • Case 1: Turnabout Countdown. As time has gone on (and this has become my most played case in the Ace Attorney series), I've really come to like 5-1. Not only is it a great introduction for Athena and reintroduction for Phoenix, but it also sets the tone and backstory for the game very well. I also love the character of Juniper Woods and can't wait to see more of her in Turnabout Academy, and...

  • ...the plot twist of the courtroom being in danger of being destroyed towards the end, even if it is just a bluff from Tonate, was not only believable but also sent the message of "Anything can happen in this game" very well. I do think it has a few issues, such as how the pace is kind of slow, but overall, both as a tutorial and a case, it's very well-done, and, behind Turnabout Memories, it's...

  • ...my favorite first case in the series. Current rank on my favorite cases list: 8th. Case 2: The Monstrous Turnabout It took a LONG time for me to warm up to 5-2, but once I did, I found a lot to like. Apollo and Athena have a lot of chemistry together as characters, and it shows all throughout this case. Jinxie and Mayor Tenma are great characters, and the music in this case, most of all...

  • ...Nine Tales Vale and Je suis L'Belle is some of Ace Attorney's best, which is really saying something, in my opinion. The whole Yokai thing can get a bit distracting, but other than that it's a really solid case, and I like how, by the end of it, it concludes with a realistic explanation for the events instead of some ridiculous "Tenma Taro is real" explanation, granted, I'm sure Phoenix...

  • ...would love the chance to add Yokai to his list of non-human witnesses that he's cross-examined, but we'll get to that in 5-DLC. The only thing I don't like about this case is how, from what I hear it's Apollo's only case in the game as defense team leader, yet his Bracelet is hardly ever used. Between Phoenix, Apollo, and Athena's abilities, Apollo's is by far my favorite, and I really wanted..

  • ...to see it utilized more. Other than that, though, to quote a fellow Ace Attorney fan I know (shoutout to you, KartRacer, you summed this case up better than I ever could have), The Monstrous Turnabout feels like a Scooby-Doo episode, and I love that. Current rank: 12th. Case DLC: Turnabout Reclaimed Okay, so, this isn't going to make much sense. My opinion of Turnabout Reclaimed was very...

  • ...hit or miss the first time I played it, but playing it again, I really, really like it. It feels like a great return for Phoenix, complete with his classic bluffs, out of nowhere plot twists and, for goodness sake, cross-examining a orca, it's Phoenix as his best. I like how all three members of the main cast get something to do here, and all of the one-time characters are great. The music is..

  • ...really catchy too (dang you, Athena, the Swashbuckler Spectacular theme is STILL stuck in my head), and I feel like it's one of the most challenging cases in the series, in all honesty...either that or, after 10 months, I still just fail at Ace Attorney. As a whole though, even though I think it's the weakest of the first three chronological cases, I still think it's really fun and enjoyable...

  • ...Overall series rank: 13th (out of 26). Now then, onward and forward to the second half of what is almost certainly going to become my favorite game in the series (If it's not obvious, I kind of lost my enthusiasm for Dual Destinies for a few months, only to find it again out of nowhere, can you tell?). Turnabout Academy posts begin on Monday!

  • Everything sounds good! Also it is indeed disappointing Apollo's bracelet isn't used more. It will be crucial in the final case though.

  • @Noah: Glad to hear! I know I've already said this, but it's by far my favorite gameplay element. Three things I forgot to mention about Turnabout Reclaimed, by the way, is I really like how the entire case ends on a positive note, what with both of Phoenix's clients being found innocent, and Rimes returning to Shipshape Aquarium, how Shipley's death was accidental, a first in the series, and...

  • ...how in one of the cross-examinations, the solution is on the first statement. I never bothered mentioning this earlier, but I think the other games in the series are kind of bad about it being obvious that the statements you have to present evidence on are normally at the end of cross-examinations, whereas 5-DLC, and DD as a whole, are a lot less predictable.

  • @ JohnnyTLP I said the wrong thing. The bracelet isn't used a lot in the final case. It does helps you uncover a crucial piece of evidence.

  • @ JohnnyTLP A Bravely Default question; how long did the final boss take? As a matter of fact, how long does a typical RPG final boss take? One of my failed attempts at Persona 3's final boss took 110 minutes! The boss goes through 14 forms in total during the battle. I basically wasted the day trying to beat it, but I'm not mad. Time for grinding!

  • @Noah: Bravely Default's took about 30 minutes if I recall correctly. It's hard to say regarding your second question, but my best guess would be somewhere between 10 and 45 minutes, though that's little help.

  • @ JohnnyTLP I guess Persona 3 is just demonstrating once again how exceptional it is. It never ever ends even though I'm 103 hours in. We will see whether it takes me a longer time to finish it than the time you've taken for Dual Destinies.

  • @Noah: I don't think I could play a game 100+ hours again, in honesty. Last time I did that was Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (200+ hours), and by the end of it I was scrambling to find literally anything else available to play. Personally, depending on the quality of the game, I tend to get tired of a game between 60 and 80 hours in.
