    You can only write data from one game to an amiibo at once. You can save data from, say, Smash Bros., to a Yarn Yoshi amiibo, but you can't save data from this game to a regular Yoshi amiibo.

    If you liked the original yoshi's island or Yoshi's story from the n64, then I think you'll like this game. I've been enjoying it quite a bit.

    If you use a Yarn Yoshi amiibo with Smash data, I think you would be able to play without losing the data. And if you couldn't, the game should warn you about losing your data first.
