    not neccesarily, theres a few games out there that have a secondary button layout. demon's souls, dark souls and sacred 2 are a couple of them.

    Those are console games. Consoles have less limitations than the handhelds systems. Not a very good comparison. There's one element set to each direction on the D Pad. The only way they could have possibly squeezed in more would probably be placing some options on diagonals, but that'd be quite annoying, especially in the midst of combat imo.

    why couldnt they have just mapped 2 options to the d-pad and you press it to get the particular spell/skill you wanted, or use one of the buttons (start/select) to bring up a secondary button overlay? i mean we dont need 2 buttons dedicated to taking screen shots do we?

    That is a more fair argument. There's just the Start button for screenshots, but perhaps your idea would give the Select button a purpose. Oh well. It is what it is.
