    Once you unlock team selection, you can play as any Pokemon (that you connected and did a job for).

    You do know there are OTHER alternatives. Don't forget Meowth, Skitty, Machop, Psyduck, Cubone, Phanpy, Vulpix, Munchlax, Shinx, and even Axew.

    I'll agree that the reduced starter variety isn't good (I've played Eevee in RRT and Sky), but I can understand the reasons for it. We're now on gen 6, so that's 18 actual starters for the hero. And of course they need Pikachu. And Riolu makes sense for the last slot (and can mega evolve). 20s just a lot of options, and you pretty much need all the region starters in this.
