    The sugar-coated answer. It's not a lie, though Nintendo themselves don't care about "what characters could be represented authentically to the character in the Yoshi form" given how many characters look like garbage when translated into Yoshi form (Robin, Lucina, Palutena, and Link come to mind in particular).

    No, the reason was because The Pokemon Company, Inc., didn't want their Pokemon to have their appearance fitted to a Yoshi's body. If they had been allowed to drop non-yarn versions of the Pokemon directly into the game to take Yoshi's place, then maybe TPC would've allowed it.

    They just unlock the "amiibo Yoshi" which is a Yoshi wearing a white shirt with the amiibo logo on it that every incompatible amiibo unlock, hence the making of this discussion.
