...Why is the third connection orb quest so overlevelled? Literally one-shot my party and took 5 damage from super effective moves.

  • Option 1.) You could bring a lot of reviver seeds and blast seeds. Option 2.) You could spam the alliance attack. Option 3.) Combine options 1 and 2. Up to you which option you wish to use, not trying to be mean just giving you any ideas to use against him, but it's really up to you.

  • I used some slummber orbs and blast seeds, each deals 100 damage, but it was still very dangerous

  • Wound up using a sleep wand and blast seeds. Still odd that they'd put an obligatory boss fight so early that is literally impossible without using specific consumables to lock it down and deal damage. Conventional moves were literally useless.

  • Yeah, I was more shocked at his level after doing that mission, then again it kinda explained why he was so tough to beat.

  • Yeah. I joked to some friends that he must be level 50, tossing it out as an absurd level. Then I saw what level he was. It's like they forgot everything about game balance.

  • Nothing to do with game balance, it's a two/three on one fight in Mystery Dungeon. It's a test of how well you can utilize items and tactics. And an optional one at that. The only problem is how you probably don't know this'll happen when you go into the dungeon, it can definitely catch you off guard the first time around.

  • Sure it's three on one, but he also defeats your members in a single hit and has enough HP and defense to require 30+ rounds if fighting conventionally. You have 3. Sure it's a trial by fire in how to cheese the game with items to kill things 5 times your level, but is that REALLY necessary so early on? It's also hardly optional, you can't progress in the connection orb without it.

  • Yeah, though it also kinda trains you and prepares you for the boss fights to come later on in your adventure, though I just wish they gave you a little heads up on a pokemon level or something like that and not just, oh here's your first mission; good luck! Then just make you fight a lvl 50 pokemon when you're barely level 15.

  • Thinking on it, I think my main issue is that what's required seems cheap more than anything. You need to make your stats totally irrelevant, to use strategies that would let you defeat any boss at level 1. What's the point of moves and stats? The game has made it clear how it expects me to play. Just spam items.

  • Or the alliance attack, don't forget the alliance attack. Can't tell you how many times I forgot about it and ended up getting defeated 30-40 times before it came back around and hit me.

  • It's actually seemed rather lackluster when I've used it. The only advantage I know of using the alliance attack over attacking normally is that it negates penalties for type, but the damage still seems about the same.
