You know what would be awesome...if Pokémon invented team-up attacks! These would be an entirely new mechanic to the Pokémon franchise where, in order to be performed, 2 or more Pokémon would have to combine their moves to form one powerful attack! It could even combine different move types! Except ones that cancel each other out, of course, like fire and water.

What do you all think?

  • (Also, as a side note, I'm suggesting this for future Pokémon games, not Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.)

  • And after team-up attacks, Pokemon will be able to fuse together like kyurem with zekrom or reshiram.

  • This is a topic I've seen on Reddit before. It would add a fresh new mechanic to the battle system!

  • There are moves which the starters can learn, and if used together are more powerful and trigger side effects. I can't remember these moves, though, and I'm not sure they're available in PMD. What I'd like the most is being able to play with a friend. I think it was possible in Gates, but I don't have any friend with that game.

  • @Liat: Nope, pledges are here.

  • @Liat yea those are the pledges. Although they sort of have effects like that :3 @Wyatt That'd be an interesting idea. My only concern would be the possibility of broken Pokemon combinations. But yea that'd be cool and add more possibilities.

  • You see this is why more people should play Gates to Infinity... This was in it.

  • In fact, now that I think about it, combining water and fire could create some sort of steam attack which would give blindness to the opponent, and opposite move types could combine to create other move types, such as combining fire and ice would create a water type attack. Just imagine all of the possibilities and different combinations! Of course, it would need to be balanced out as well...

  • ...Such as having to obtain some sort of special item(s) first to be able to use certain team-up attacks. @Oshawott: Good point. I did, in fact, play Gates to Infinity and noticed this, but it didn't really feel like enough of a completed idea to me to revolutionize the battle system in Pokémon. I was just wondering what would happen if they fine-tuned this concept and re-introduced it like this.

  • Does anyone have any ideas for the possible combinations of other move types?

  • Wow, I thought this was mostly used in contests in the anime lol.

  • True. I hadn't remembered that until now. The question is: what if it were used for the battle system? To make it more dynamic? :D
