In PSMD, the shape of Air, Grass, and Mist Continents are based off of continents from previous games. Air Continent's is based off of PMD Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Grass Continent's is based off of PMD Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, and Mist Continent's is based off of PMD Gates to Infinity.

    As far as I know, Water and Sand Continents are original to PSMD.

    I see the relationship the air continent has, with one minor issue. Great Canyon doesn't appear to exist. It would be to the south, but as you can see, it doesn't really appear to be a canyon (perhaps I see it differently?)... Everything else seems to check out though!

    The Grass Continent has more differences though... for one, the Northwest Isles (seen here) as I recall were a rather volcanic and desolate wasteland, but appear to flourish as if millennia have passed. I just can't see the relation.

    If most of pokemon super mystery dungeon takes place on the water continent,I think is the next pokemon mystery dungeon is going to take place in the sand continent.

    @Josh enviorment changes over time. Rescue team was 10 years ago and time/darkness/sky was 7 years ago. Of course the map would change.

    There's also Absol (in Ninetales' secret base mission) mentioning that he met a human turned into a Pokemon a long time ago. Take it what you will, but it does imply that the events of Red and Blue took place a long time ago.
