So is this gender or a type?

Ok so, I am finally happy that they offer us a shot at either choosing cute or cool, but I don't really understand what it represents. Everyone assumed it means gender but I have yet to see my partner actually be referred to as female by peers. Dialogue doesn't even show she's a she. If not gender,is this a type of characteristic for the personality of your partner?

  • There are no Characteristic Changes

  • It's gender, for your starter you won't exactly notice a difference in appearence (except for Pikachu)

  • And for moves like attract. I thought they used to put gender in the status, but I can't find it. :/

  • Thanks for your feedback guys! If its gender, its a pretty sad attempt. I mean, like Justin said, Pikachu is the only one to have a noticeable change to signify gender appearance. I think they should've at least have your partner's text box outlined in pink or blue to help you know again. It's sad you couldn't even choose your own gender :/ I really think it was a wasteful input in my opinion.

  • As for moves like attract a Kyle said, once more it doesn't even work for said partner depending on gender. Every other character like Espurr and Pancham will get "he" or "she" gender pronouns, but not even attempt it on your partner :/ I hate to rant and I know that gender isn't "Be all end all" but if Nintendo is going to do it, why not go the whole 9 yards? What is do hard with gender? Lazy?

  • At least their story makes up for the misshap. Still, if they are going to make you become a pokemon, as the story suggests, I would like to portray myself as said pokemon, by knowing it's a female like myself so I can get a better feel for the story they are trying to implement. Oh well. I knew they were going to trip somewhere but it's start. Hopefully, it isn't their last...lol

  • I won't go into spoilers but there's a part in the game that probably explains why your partner isn't referred to as he or she, but it's still no excuse for it.

  • I think I know what part you are talking about. I won't spoil it either. I see where you are coming from but I fully agree. Still no excuse for it.
