I drew this to help me understand the use of color within a drawing, did the very best I could with what I know so far. Hope to start the next drawing soon and keep improving along the way.

  • If I might recommend something, your composition contains too many elements. A lot of them are the same size. If you were to focus on just one part of the picture, just stalactites or stalagmites, blue crystals, or the yellow light, or fewer elements with different size variations it would improve your design.

  • This isn't to say that I don't like your drawing, though. Your texture is great and so is your lighting. The reflection of the right crystal/pyramid is superb. It's nice for an analogous color scheme, definitely.

AspireArt thanks for your criticism, it may be that my eye is not matured yet in composition so can you tell me what I did wrong and maybe how to fix it for upcoming drawing.

Great work with the cave here! I like the colors and the perception of depth shown.

Thanks Cfx, already started with my next drawing which will be more of a challenge to draw, it's essentially a scene from the Tron Legacy universe where a light jet is seeing flying along with lightcycles privately racing below.

  • Well, your image doesn't have one real focus. It's conflicted between your yellow light and the two blue objects. If you were to just focus on one of these, and not multiple objects, it would improve your composition. Incorporating the rules from the other site would help as well (e.g. leading the eye, framing, rule of thirds, etc).

  • The eye is always drawn towards what is brightest, so in this case you have 3 and not 1 object(s). Surrounding your bright with darks (like your lantern) will create greater focus.

  • Oh I see what you mean, thanks for the help AspireArt, hopefully I will learn from this.
