You guys are aware of how big Mother 3 is, right?

Very, very big. There's text for things you probably don't even know you can check. Also it's a bit of a programming mess.

  • If the fans can make a quality translation of MOTHER 3, the localization pros at Nintendo should have no problems.

    Yeahs1
  • True, but it wasn't easy. Said localization took years. It says a lot about how much time and effort has to put on translating and localize a big game like Mother 3.

    Yeahs2
  • The lead translator for the project - Clyde "Tomato" Mandelin - was a professional translator, even, and it took a few years.

    Yeahs2
  • A lot of text heavy RPGs get localized and translated for the west, so this isn't a crazy request.

    Yeahs0
  • Said text-heavy RPGs aren't typically a decade old.

    Yeahs2
  • The Dragon Quest series is about as old as RPGs get and they've veen localizing every re-release since Dragon Quest 4 hit the DS (which also no one thought would happen since the PS1 localization was cancelled).

    Yeahs0
  • Those remakes aren't a decade old.

    Yeahs2
  • As I said, Dragon Quest 4 on the DS is a port of the PS1 remake. It is still well over a decade old. Dragon Quest 7 might also need a new translation from it's PS1 dialog.

    Yeahs0
  • But the DS and 3DS versions of Dragon Quest IV and VII are not a decade old. If Mother 3 got a 3DS or Wii U remake, I would not oppose to people asking for a translation.

    Yeahs1
  • You shouldn't oppose it irregardless, we are not publishers we are gamers. Shigesato Itoi in all likelyhood will never remake these games... so this is our last, best and pretty much only chance. And we know Nintendo is listening now!

    Yeahs0
  • Ah, see, there's your problem. You're looking at it from the perspective of gamers, not publishers. As said before, Mother 3 is a massive game. The translation team's going to have to spend a good few years on it. "But they're professional translators! Not fan translators!" Tomato was a professional translator. It took him a few years. In fact, their even-more-professionalism might make

    Yeahs1
  • them take *longer*, because they're working on other projects as well - including the aforementioned Dragon Quest VII Remake. "But they have the fan translation!" It wouldn't be very professional to use a fan translation. And with how old-school Nintendo is, it's certainly right out of the question. "But it will sell like hotcakes! EarthBound did!" Not everyone who bought EarthBound

    Yeahs1
  • will buy Mother 3. There's a fair amount of people who are turned off by EarthBound's aged mechanics - and Mother 3 isn't especially different in that regard. There's also people who hate the idea of an official translation, because then it would mess with Mother 3 or make it available to a wider audience. And there's also the people who already have the fan translation to play. Which is free.

    Yeahs1
  • Earthbound is one of the top selling Wii U digital games of all time, and not only for the Virtual Console. That's why we got Earthbound Beginnings. The Treehouse can handle the translation of a GBA game, it might take a long time... but localization is their business, and they do handle multiple projects at once. "Asteroids do not concern me, I want that ship!" Developer woes are not my problem.

    Yeahs0
  • There's one massive difference between Mother 3 and EarthBound Beginnings: Beginnings was already professionally translated. That's why "Beginnings" isn't on the title screen. That's why the final boss is called Giegue rather than Giygas. It took literally no effort to put EarthBound Beginnings on the eShop. The same would not apply to Mother 3.

    Yeahs1
  • Ignoring developer woes, incidentally, is probably the most stuck-up, ignorant thing I have ever heard on this site. Congratulations.

    Yeahs1
  • The demand is there for MOTHER 3. It's gonna happen. Just wait.

    Yeahs0
  • The demand was there for Wolf to return in Smash Bros. 4 as DLC. Wolf isn't returning to Smash Bros. 4 as DLC.

    Yeahs1
  • Is Miiverse a site? Nevermind. You're the second person I've run into on Miiverse who has taken my opinions about Nintendo's lack of localization far too personally. I made a joke and you act like I killed your cat. Maybe it's your loyalty to Nintendo itself. Hey, I could fanboy with the best of them back in the day! But Nintendo are not above criticism, no one is. One game isn't too much to ask.

    Yeahs0
  • Ah, the "it's a joke!" justification, perfect because no one but you can tell if it was, in fact, a joke. I'm not saying Nintendo is above criticism. I'm saying there's plenty of good reasons why they have not localized Mother 3.
