We found an Awakening emera, but my partner couldn't Mega Evolve, so he was just Awakened... The game seems to make a big deal out of it, but all it seems to do is make you evade attacks from the front... Is there another effect I'm missing?

    That's all the awakening emera does when you awaken, it makes you immune to all attacks from the front. It is much better for mega evolution. If you mega evolve, you gain the ability to break down walls in a 2x3 area. I think that also some stats temporarially increase during mega evolution/ awakening, but I'm not entirely sure about that.
