    Though wouldn't a werehog form imply that Vicious's encountered Dark gaia before even though Sonic already took care of that? And on a sidenote: If hedgehogs are the common species of mobians, Then why are there only 3 prominent ones in the main universe? Just wondering.

    Main answer: Yes, he encountered Dark Gaia as Sonic Unleashed started, but failed to defeat him, causing him to be cursed by his dark magic then launched back to the surface. But, some mobian girls thinks he's adorable and hug him, rather than being scared, like the others. Sidenote answer: Beats me, probably game logics. :/
