What exactly is it about the Absolutely Safe Capsule that makes it so terrifying?
Given how afraid I am of death, it'd seem I should prefer the idea of being held in the Absolutely Safe Capsule for all eternity over the idea of death-as-nothingness, & yet… I'm not sure if I actually do prefer it, though. But why? What is it about the idea of Absolute Safety that makes it a fate worse than death?

First of all, I'd just like to note that I'm dealing with the Absolutely Safe Capsule as a purely theoretical construct, and as such, responses of practicality like, "Well, it was designed by Dr. Andonuts, who was a flawed human whose Skyrunner failed multiple times in Earthbound, so maybe the Absolutely Safe Capsule will also fail eventually," aren't really relevant here.

So now that I have that out of the way, some actual answers I've considered: 1. It could just be the general idea of eternity that is so scary. However, if that's it, then even the idea of Heavën should be scary, too, and that's it's own separate issue, which I don't really have space to go into here. Furthermore, there are a number of distinctions to draw between the A.S.C. and Heavën, which...

...brings me to: 2. The concept of "Safety" embodied in the A.S.C. is flawed in some way. Specifically, while it provides absolute physical safety, it neglects to provide any sort of mental or social safety, which would lead to anyone inside it going insane eventually. Of course, Porky was already kind of insane before he even entered it, so... maybe it is actually what he wanted.

Of course, that second response then raises questions of what exact sort of sanity or insanity we're talking about, anyways, so maybe the sort of insanity inflicted by being trapped in the A.S.C. for all eternity is worse than the ways in which Porky was already insane. But anyways. Those are the 2 explanations I've come up with so far. Anyone got any others?

(Also note that I haven't actually played Mother 3 myself, so any information I have about the nature of the Absolutely Safe Capsule, I only learned secondhand from reading things online. Thus, responses from people who have actually played the game would be particularly appreciated, although anyone else is certainly free to comment, as well.)

I always thought that it represented the ideal safe space. Impenetrable, protected from any harm. It would seem comforting. But... there's no exit. Eventually the boredom & loneliness of such stagnance & isolation would get to anyone. & considering Porky became immortal, he would literally be in there forever. Some things kinda imply that he misses Ness, so he really was lonely even before this.

Itoi stated that 5.5 billion years later, Porky would still be inside that capsule. Eternity really is a long time to be alone...

Maybe in another 5,000,000,000,000,000 years the capsule will deteriorate. Of course by then Porky would probably be unable to think at all.

And just remember, 5.5 billion years is no closer to eternity than a single year is. As the lyrics in Amazing Grace go, ♪When we've been there ten thousand years♪ ♪Bright shining as the sun♪ ♪We've no less years to sing G0d's praise♪ ♪Than when we'd first begun♪ Except in the case of the A.S.C., there's no "we", just Porky. There's no singing, just loneliness. It's a severely deprived eternity.

And as far as the possibility of the capsule disintegrating goes, sure, current models of the universe do predict all matter disintegrating eventually, but again, I'm more interested in the capsule as a theoretical construct than as anything that could actually exist in the universe. I mean, given some of the other things in the game we have to suspend our disbelief for...

Porky has seen it all. From the death of Earth to the collapse of the sun.To see black holes rise and fall.To see all the protons in the universe decay.Except, The A.S.C and its Occupant.Entropy is at Maximum with one small thing floating in the void.Porky is alone in the entire universe. In a way,Porky is the true master of the universe having outlived Eternity.

See, putting it that way almost makes it seem non-scary... but, I dunno. What's the point of being the master of a universe you can't interact with?

Its more of a cosmic horror story. Like Lovecraft. Its not scary to us because our brains cannot understand such scales.Have you ever read "I have no mouth and i must scream?" The AI has Godlike power, but cannot use this.So he(it?) takes it out on the remaining humans. In a way , Porky got it worse than even Giygas.Giygas was insane and probably in constant pain but he was not really consciouscont.

anymore.Porky , on the other hand, had to live all through it.And while it might seem like paradise, After Everything has fallen, it gets a bit boring. And boredom was Porkys primary reason for the events of M3.Due to quantum effects, there should be a new universe in around 10 to the power of 234 years. So, a long time.
