    Funnily enough my Hector currently has less defense than my Eliwood.... and Hector's promoted. RNG is wierd for me. I have a 13 defense level 10 Great Lord Hector and a Level 5 Blade Lord Lyn with 15 defense.

    My Lyn's and Erika's always have loads of defense while my Hector (15 res) and Ephraim (18 res) are magic tanks.

    My biggest problem, I use my units like you would normally, but my units are wierd as heck so they aren't fit for their role, which throws me off. Then I have a 4 luck 9 defense Raven who's worse than my unpromoted Guy.

    Nope. Permadeath is a part of the game and must be respected except on playthroughs with specific objectives. I even managed to restrain myself when Mordecai died in Radiant Dawn, and that was utterly heartbreaking!
