Gender on PSMD?

(I don't own a copy of this game)Theres already a gender option cute/cool just to ask is that for your partner if so are you just genderless or do you both end up both being a girl/boy? -Thanks

yeah i got the gmae Monday evening and chose Torchic(BRENDA) & Riolu(LUCY) but BRENDA & LUCY can't get past poliwrath river dungeon been trying since yesterday to get thru...UGH!!! 19 hours & nothing

@Vicky This game is actually harder and more challanginv than the pervious PMD games. Oh and AFAIK your main Pokemon's gender will be male by default (judging by my Pikachu's tail) and the gender question is for your partner only.
