Chrom remembered that day like it was yesterday. A band of ruffians had attacked a small village of humble farmer folk who could barely fend for themselves. Save for one: a 15-year-old farmer boy named Donnel. Chrom knew he had great potential as a Shepherd when he saw him take down several brigands armed with nothing but a humble homemade lance with a bronze tip.

    Though Donnel had promising skill, he was still not quite suited for the intensity of the battlefield. After several incidents that resulted in trips to the medic's tent, Chrom took it upon himself to take Donnel under his wing and teach him the formal art of combat. He started by having Donnel observe from the side and allowing him to deal in an extra blow every now and then.

    He then had Donnel take charge of the attack while still standing behind him to block any stray arrows that were aimed his way. Over time, Donnel grew to be a valuable member of the Shepherds, all with the help of Chrom and his trusty bronze lance.
