Indie game culture had been scaring me away, but... wow, this game! Best of the old and the new.

  • Some of the Indie stuff out there is hit or miss(like on Steem),you can't technically call Yacht Club an Indie or maybe you can,it a weird circumstance since YC is made up of former ex-employees of WayForward that is a big budget company like Capcom. For a true Indie, check out Galaxy Trail and Freedom Planet here on Wii U and hopefully FP will get a physical disc like Shovel Knight did.

  • Well, indie or otherwise, Shovel Knight isn't setting my "pretentious meter" skyrocketing off the scale like virtually all other games of its ilk. So that's a good thing!

  • Well I'm still waiting on that blasted update to Shovel Knight,so I can use the SK Amiibo(I'm in the US)Well when Freedom Planet goes on sale like Shantae and the Pirate's Curse did,I'm picking it off the Eshop(or I get lucky and a physical disc is made)I like how these Indie game are compatible with my old Wii console's SNES Club Nintendo Classic Controller, give me the best D-pad any day.

  • I actually bought Freedom Planet recently, but haven't started it yet. I was a Sega Genesis kid from '89-'94 (which is when I moved on to the 3DO), so my hopes are high! And that's cool about the SNES adapter, it is a great dpad! I also like the Saturn's controller (the refreshed one, not the original concave ones)

  • I was a '90s video game kid myself and no offense, but I HATED the Sega Genesis with it sound of electronic farts and horrible D-pad(give me the SNES any day)but on the flip side Sega better made Saturn model 2 controller that I stil use on newer console fighters via adapters.I feel sorry you got a 3D0(which also has a horrible controller)over a Playstation 1 with it much better games or Dreamcast.

  • Well, the PSX didn't exist when I got my 3DO-- 3DO was the hottest tech on the market at that time. Besides I love that platform, still play it all of the time. I wound up buying a PSX in '96, and preferred the 3DO while concurrently owning both. And I like the Megadrive sound chip! SNES' was no man's land between chiptune synth and fully digital imo. These days I'm an avid PC Engine collector.

  • I also did own a Dreamcast, got one at launch. But that was waaaay forward in '99; I was almost done with high school by the time that came out! Definitely not a 3DO competitor.

  • Yeah the 3DO had a weird controller input having to daisy chain them together,I might give the 3D0 a go if I can get the SNES controller adapter I saw on Game Sack to play Super Street Fighter 2 on it since I enjoy that game franchise.Getting to SNES it had the better sound chip over the MegaDrive thanks to SONY technology.1st time I heard a orchestra type music.

  • Dreamcast had better games over the 3D0 bet it couldn't hold it own against the PS2,don't know where you live and I know there are 3D0 fans, but more so a failure than Dreamcast at the cost of $700 for 3D0 console over $299 DC console price. The 3D0 was way overpriced bad load times,no 3D,and hardware failures, the PSX was the much better console at $199 and fixed the flaws the 3D0 had.

  • PSX was $299 though, and the hardware was actually kind of lame; companies had to make lots of compromises when porting 3DO games to the PSX, check out ewhac's Youtube channel if you want specifics. And the 3DO could do 3d, lots of the games were polygonal! But the PSX had such a great marketing blitz... I think that was why it took over. That, and the Saturn was such a debacle :D

  • If you do get a 3DO sometime, I have tons of game recommendations: Star Control II is an absolute must play; Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Samurai Shodown are fantastic arcade ports; Guardian War is an SRPG with an unforgettable aesthetic and soundtrack; Road Rash is incredible; I rate Gex up there with the best Sonic or Super Mario Bros. games; and The Need for Speed has aged really well too

  • You should also give the 3DO controllers a chance; there were no fewer than four different kinds, and that's not even counting the third-party ones. I can beat SSF2T on 8 stars without losing a round with the original Panasonic controller, so obviously the dpad is pretty good. The daisy chaining is great as well-- 8 player with no multitap!

  • About the SNES, my favorite soundtrack on the system belongs to ActRaiser. Ever play that one?

  • Yeah I played ActRasier but I don't like the Sim part of it and sorry this message took so long the Wii U bricked on me and had to send it to Nintendo to repair.
