MALAMAR IS FINALLY MINE! I am so thankful I finally get to use my favorite Gen 6 Pokémon wherever I want, and that it's at least viable here! Yes, I am referencing how its 4x Bug weakness cripples it elsewhere. With such an awesome design, my Splatoon stand-in deserves better. Anyway, I caught it on the second try, which is pretty good for an Expert stage Pokémon!

    No, it really doesn't. Bug is uncommon outside of U-turn. Its bigger problem is the complete lack of resistances, and just not having large defenses in general. I only have Galvantuala left to S-rank until this happens.

    You mentioned one great other source of bug, Gavantula is often used for Sticky web, and typically carried Bug Buzz. Bug Bite is sometimes used on SD Scizor sets because it gets Technician boosts, and you don't want to waste a boost by u-turning.

    I believe Maly's problem is that it's subpar defensively and slow (a deadly combination) and it has no resistances to mitigate any damage (besides Null: Psychic), rather than it being specifically its double Bug weakness.

    Zach, but that's the thing! U-turn is a very common solution to a big problem, and no one is more susceptible than Malamar. And, y'know, Inkay. Stuart, see, that just supports my case though. I feel like Psychic shouldn't be weak to Bug... bugs are cute, not scary! Lief, still a big part of that is the typing working against it. Dark/Psychic is such a boss typing, it's too bad.

    Yeah, though usually one pokemon will know U-turn per team. Eliminate that, and Malamar can do work with its fantastic coverage. Psychic needs to have more resistances, I think. Make it resist Steel, for starters. Mind over matter, and all that. Maybe Electric, too...?

    Insects are a common phobia. That's the common theme of Psychic's weaknesses - the more common phobias are of bugs (...Bug), ghosts (...Ghost), and running into punks in a dark alley (Dark). And clearly it's not a boss typing if it has an entire zero resistances :U

    Zach, I agree. Long gone are the days of Gen I -- Psychic is in need of some type resistances. Steel would be great. Electric, if anything, should be super-effective against Psychic, because disrupting the action potentials of the neurons would be a HUGE threat to brain. Lief, yeah... I know. What can I do? When I say boss typing, I mean it's honestly the coolest typing. Psychic villains, man.

    At this rate, we'll have to redo the whole type chart, and then get a server to test the changes out on. The type charts are severely flawed, when you think about it for a while... I meant offensively, Lief. Malamar often carries Superpower as well, and that makes for tons of SE damage.

    I wonder why Bugs are super effective against Dark? I never got it... I mean, from a Shuffle standpoint, I'm not complaining, but it seems random. I'd imagine they'd be quite susceptible to victimization by unfair play. Malamar's niche is combining Contrary and Superpower, which is a pretty amazing way to go. Like, a super overpowered attack and a stat boost afterwards? That's AMAZING!

    Contrary Superpower is cool but it doesn't help if you can't use it. :U Dark's weak to Bug because they're too simple to understand evil.

    ...Spinda is not even close to what Malamar is, though. Normal's a terrible offensive type, and 60s around the board don't help Spinda....

    Stuart, I can't imagine Spinda being good for anything ever at all though. Just saying. As Zach said, its stats are disappointing. Lief, whereas the reason for Psychic being weak to Bug makes total sense, I don't get Dark's weakness quite as much. Then again, outside of Malamar I don't really care too much for Dark, so there's that. Scrafty is cool, but obviously Scrafty isn't suffering.
