The Nopon tradition of casting away possessions of lost loved ones into bodies of water was first shown in a quest that Satata gives in the original Xenoblade Chronicles. This is brought up again in Tatsu's first Affinity Mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Satata's Japanese name was Tatsu. Coincidence? Probably, but I'm going to make a big deal out of it anyway.
