Sometimes I wish my Art Teacher wasn't so harsh. She's a nice semi-elderly woman who is EXTRAORDINARY at art, but really-there is a difference between offering advice/pointing out mistakes, and being patronizing and bluntly (but sorta-professionally) saying 'You're doing it wrong. I figured you would, since you can't seem to learn how to do this or that while the rest of the class excels.'

  • To be perfectly honest, if she can't find a way to appreciate your art for what it is and can't find the decency to at least be nice about it, I think you just shouldn't listen to her. Not everyone is some kind of "miracle DaVinci," like many art teachers seem to expect. Whatever she's trying to teach you that you can't get while everyone else "excels," you'll be able to do eventually, promise!

  • Thank you. :') This year in Art has been rough for me-and it's hard for me to understand why. Year 1 of Art she was incredibly helpful and nice. Year 2, she's still somewhat nice, but rather patronizing too. :/

  • I had a great teacher who respected my style, and always looked at me as most improved. I wasn't great at doing portraits or realism. Once had a substitute art teacher who tore my perspective practice project in half and said "do it again!" ...it hurt...alot. Only listen to positive advice, and by the way...you can't rush art. I believe you are at your best while inspired. :x

  • RyuAsh, that was really inspirational. ;^; and I can't believe a substitute did that...that's more harsh than any other teacher or substitute I've had... D: But, thank you for the advice-that's actually really helpful. :) And you're right-you can't rush art.

  • @Sapphire And yet, she does say those things, but when any of us have made a mistake, she might reprimand us a bit too harshly. It could be because I'm a Junior, and high school DOES get harder (to some extent), but the Art classes have mixed groups of kids from other grades, so it doesn't make much sense. :/

  • My high school class was the same. Full of mixed grade students. I favored charcoal over any other medium I had to work with lol. When I had to draw something "play" related- I shined with inspration and spent over 40hrs total on the project even after school. I drew a game controller. A freshman vandalized my artwork in the lobby and my teacher took it home over the summer to repair it.

  • She did her best and I was able to cover the errors with a pattern detail. The teacher liked it even more. xD The kid got caught on camera and had 3 months after school cafeteria cleaning. My teacher wanted him to do artwork the same as me and understand the time and work put into it. My drawing is glass framed on a wall with my name engraved in a gold plate. It was my dream to achieve that. :,)

  • Anyone can draw, you just have to have the inspiration and all your passion and personality shows. Art is a self expression, and always fun. Everyone has their own style. :3

    Yeahs2
  • :') Once again, super inspirational. And I'm surprised a Freshman did that-my school (as far as I know) never dealt with a situation like that... :( And, yeah-Art, no matter what it is or what it's about, is Expression. Just showing off a little bit-or a whole lot-of your innermost thoughts, emotions, and interests. People get to see a side to you that you might usually keep hidden.
