    Basic science- surprised you haven't learned it in school yet. Whether or not something is magnetic depends on how much iron is in it. Aluminum is non-magnetic. While in most cases steel is, certain higher grades of stainless steel aren't. Beryllium-copper alloy is another nonferrous metal. Take a magnet and try sticking it to pots/pans/silverware etc around your home. Might be surprised.
