Splatoon's a necessary shooter. Practically every other shooter is a rip off of CoD/Halo, but Splatoon breathes fresh air and original ideas to an otherwise stale genre. Terrain and mobility become key aspects in battles that'd get old in any other game. It's not a gimmick but a fully functioning and incredibly fun part of the gameplay mechanics, as original as the reaction commands were in KH2.
