Why can't you go to other peoples Islands?!?! ☺

Hey!! I love Tomodachi Life but why can't you go to other islands like animal crossing, I read the review and it said it was like animal crossing but I wanna go to other Islands and meet the islanders! How come the Grown up kids can but the Mayor cant
