A lot of people say gender is a societal construct. I believe you are born with a certain gender but you are free to express yourself differently however way you like without the judgement of others. Gender roles are also constraining as they dictate what a person can and cannot do outside of what is the norm. Mind you, this is coming from a guy so that's surprising in of itself. :P
