I found a glitch (more of an error) that I do not remember if it was in the original. So I was moving this statue to get one of those letters, but before I went on to get the letter I placed the statue in a set slot that is behind (or in front) of the tree. After the cut scene for the latter the statue was placed right next to area that you get the letter. NOT in the hole where I left it.
