    Uhhhh... first I use paint (opacity light) and smooth that out. I use airbrush, usually with a pair of complimentary colors (r/g, y/p, b/o), one as the highlight, the other low. For example, light yellow and dark purple (saturate these however you like, I personally like more vibrant colors).

    Lookin' good! Normally dark green would be a good background to make it pop... but it's a fire dragon.. so you probably shouldn't get green involved. Might I recomend a dark blue backround? And then if you use that same color to shade, and bright orange for the highlights (try for a light yellow/orange, red hues lightened become pink) You'll get some nice contrast :)
