I know it sounds crazy...but here's a question.

What if Nintendo (or really any other company) decided to start making games for older consoles? Would you like to play a new N64 game made in 2016? Maybe some new Gameboy Advance games? I realize that technology now is far superior, but older games just have some sort of unique charm to them!

  • Sounds agreeable, as long as the game is good I'll play it. A game is a game to me, no matter the console. The problem with this is, a lot of Nintendo's fans (especially younger) don't have a N64 or Gameboy Advance anymore. Unless, Nintendo or etc. make it downloadable on the Wii U but for N64 or GA. Otherwise, I don't see the idea selling big.

It would have a definite nostalgia factor, but I can't see that idea ever taking off. It's interesting to think about, though.

  • Yeah, that's about what I thought too. I wonder if they could make offical aftermarket consoles, for those who don't have the originals. (I have the original N64 and SNES, and most everyone has a GameCube or Wii on hand.)

  • What if they did this and released Mother 3 on GBA? All the people that begged dearly would likely buy it.

  • Strange question indeed but they would have re print concels as well. Shovel knight plays like an 8 bit nes game on new concels same as many other games so I can't see why they would print new games for old concels (note nintendo has made nes game after the snes was out)

  • @Akira, I definitely get your point. Modern consoles are more than capable of what the older ones are. Shovel Knight is a perfect example of this. I'm more interested in having more "early" 3D games from the 64, GameCube, PS, Dreamcast era. Also GBA games had my favorite pixelated art style, but there are newer consoles that can replicate that as well.

  • I approve of this idea!

  • It wouldn't be that bad. There's studios still making games for the Dreamcast (in Japan, but you get the point), so it's not that farfetched. But I'm not sure if it's good on a business standpoint. The retro gaming market is still niche, and putting it on a console that's long gone from the current market seems like a commercial suicide... But I could ( and probably will) be wrong.

  • I mean if they did this I would buy them its just very unorthodoxed (that is by no means a bad thing)
