Is it true that you have to complete the Cave of Shadows in order to get the Magic Armor?

No, you get the magic armor from the castle town malo mart, to do that you have to donate enough money at the kakariko village malo mart in order to have Malo take the one in castle town over. Hope this helps ^-^

well I did play the original Gamecube game aka Wii version I did buy it at malo mart and Im very curious if you have to do something different in the HD version

Nope, you get it the exact same way. You get the Colossal Wallet when you complete the Cave of Shadows, It holds 9,999 Rupees
