    The developers probably studied ancient (real) symbols and applied them in the Zelda Universe by mixing them and adding (or removing) few little details to make them slightly different. Those symbols seems to have some egyptian reference (that's what I think). It's really nice to see the effort they took to make this franchise its own world. I love little details like these.
