Welcome to the 1st episode of: "A conversation with my Cat." The reviews of StarFox have released, and it's like I predicted, mixed reactions. While it's admirable for Miyamoto to encourage a new way to play, based upon what I've heard, it seems he was somewhat unsuccessful. With the return of a dormant franchise like Starfox, more focus should've been on graphics and online multiplayer .

Mossy, have you played SF 64? It's the exact same thing. Beat it in an hour, clear all the paths in 5 hrs or so. The hook comes from going for the best medals. To get those is a completely different story. It's like getting all the Star Coins in a Mario level versus just playing to the end. Two different experiences. If that's not your thing then understood. I'm not buying the 5-8 hrs if you're...

Going for the medals. I always take longer than most reviewers claim to take. If it's anywhere less than 20 for me I'll be surprised. I'm no gaming God like these reviewers ;)

Like I said, to each his own. If I'm continually finding secrets or developing new strategies I have no problem replaying a level.

JasonLee, if you dont mind, let me know how long the game runs you....both base clear time & your final run for whatever constitutes a 100% for ya. Im no stranger to medals & whatnot....be they S ranks on resident evil or monster hunter, or 3 stars on mario, kong in DKC, etc.... The difference to me is playtime or additional modifiers like online. In an apples to apples comparison...

Tropical Freeze without even the Kong letters took me way more than 8 or so hours. Maybe that will repeat with Starfox. I hope so anyway

I said a few months back Star Fox and Zelda are my final Wii U purchases...barring unannounced games. Looks like I'm just waiting for Zelda now lol. I'll atleast try Star Fox b4 passing judgement. For those calling for Miyamotos retirement, calm down! He's the God of gaming atleast he's still taking risks even after all these years...

We can complain all we want but the fact is he still finds new ways for us to play franchises that are 30yrs+ old. Who else in the industry is doing that? Screw Polygon too, there are dozens of shovelware titles that don't deserve to be scored or completed. I doubt Star Fox Zero is as bad as their portraying.

I get the frustration with the control scheme and learning curve. At the same time it's nice to challenge the gamer through gameplay. Not by cheating them by simply increasing difficulty but to fundamentally change how you experience the game through the controler. They could have just given us the same ol Star Fox with prettier graphics but then it'd be a waste of the GamePad

Great topic Kool...SF is a beloved franchise for me, but after all the reviews (even Ninty biased ones) im gonna wait due to controls. I hope this is a message sent to N about north makin a console based around gimmicks, as i believe Miyamoto was pressured, of his own fault too, to shoe horn in gamepad stuff...i think they thot SF could carry the torch for gamepad, but it just doesnt suit its play

Think I might give my Metro Redux games a shot since they pushed Fed Force out till August. The games gonna be hurtin for certain because of that with Monster Hunter Cross coming out close to then, too. There will be one game living in my 3DS....& it wont be Fed Force.

I was thinking in retrospect this summer & early fall are going to be pretty busy with releases I'm intrested in! Deus Ex, Fed Force, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, think the Witcher getting some DLC....lota fun stuff. It's kinda tough, lol....too many options. I need one game to rule them all or enough self control to just play one at a time.

monster hunter wont hit the release...they'll delay that too due to translation issues....i think they added games to that direct to make it sound better.....and yea he still needs to retire...delayed a game forever for a gimmick..wasted time making project guard n robot''also big e3 news that was recieved poorly''...in the end its a pack in to help justify 60$ for a 40$ game

KOOL C, I agree about the online multiplayer being a letdown, but getting that second window on the gamepad is the type of experience wii should have been having much earlier, not at the end of the wii u's lifespan! I read the negative reviews also stem from it being "on the rails" saying that style of gameplay is over and done with, which I don't agree with, Starfox is an "arcade" style shooter.

I dunno SD....they will be streaming Monster Hunter Generations (US release name for cross) on twitch with a company rep playing it. He hopes to hit HR3. Game is pretty much done from what I hearing. Translations, DLC for free agreements, etc. I'm not getting the delay vibe at all from what I'm hearing. Let's hope not anyway.

I love rail shooters. That was what Kid Icarus was on 3DS & though I didn't play much online, I loved the story & wagering difficulty for more reward. The base game was awesome. That game could have played so well on the Wii U, too. I would have really enjoyed it anyway.

BTW, that streaming bit for Generations is all in English for our version of the game.

Interesting point RAINZ, though I think a lot of gamers wanted a regular SF game after so long without having one. If this came out after 1 or 2 SF games on Wii or even WiiU as well, I don't think the controls would be viewed as critically. Though they still probably would've been criticized, just not as much.

Yeah, I don't think the reviews are doing this game any justice! My honest opinion is there are many who set out to dislike the controls. Case-in-point, Josh from the Bitblock(I refuse to call a grown man Joshy)...lol
