    Nope. It just lights up if you're in an area where one appears at night.

    For the most part, yes. It does serve to help notify you if there's one in the area, but then again, the map already does that, only on a much grander scale. It's definitely not as useful or handy as it could've been, even as a regular old lantern - it can't be kept out while using other items, and once you've found all 60 Poes, it goes out for good.
