    Always cut it's tail. that helps me a ton. and i attack from the side most and just watch for when it rolls and you should be fine. in the water; however, he is much harder so just be very carful

    If he hasn't seen you yet, you can fish him out with a Frog. This leaves him vulnerable on dry land for a bit, giving you a good opportunity to wail on him.

    Lantern breaks, tail can be cut. Stand at a 45 degree angle to his face when you are in front, dodge if he is flashing, careful for tailwag it paralyzes. Weak to fire. Forget element on GS/Ham/HH.

    If you are undetected you can fish him with a frog, he will drop a shiny, or you can swim to his beard [the one with bubbles] and cut off some whiskers. He sleeps under the bed of the lake.
