    yes u need the morning star whip. he adds fire to the whip and the translation in this game is difficult to understand. some of the clues to me makes no scents.

    I read a article in a game informer magazine a while back that was about the early days of the NES and it said the Japanese text was often improperly translate to English on the games.

    its really simple to understand that they didn't program a 2nd response after getting the flame whip. The clue makes perfect sense too, come back with a better weapon...derp

    I was thinking if you find a stronger weapon than the flame whip it would break the spell he cast on the morning star. In a way it hints around like there is another weapon out there.

    I was thinking the same way Jimmy. Once you use the whirlwind to travel to the final 2 mansions, more than likely you would have the morning star.
