Want to purchase this game so that I can play a distant friend. But they only have a 3ds. So a few questions. Please see following posts.

1. Is there cross platform play via the 3ds and wii u?

2. Is there an in game unified account? I'm wondering because at the moment, there is no way to friend 3ds users, thus this is the only way my friend and I could be guaranteed that we are playing toge

You make a separate online account in this game. This allows multi-platform online with 3DS, IOS, Android.

If you have the mobile version, then yes. I have read on miiverse that people continue their wii u games on their phone. Just sign in with your username.
