    Play the original on the N64. It was much more difficult. They made a lot of improvements that made navigating the temple much more pleasant. Plus, with the bottom touch pad on the 3ds you can map more items to buttons so that you don't have to push start and scroll through your items whenever you needed the boots, like on the 64. The 3ds version is just better.
