Great Swords are superior. Why do you think they're called Great?

I personally experienced great joy in cutting a Savage Deviljho's tail off mostly by myself with the other three people in the group (one Gunlance, one Long Sword, and one Switch Axe) all raging at me. This is why I'm always the room host; one guy threatened to kick me out of the group if I wasn't.

the great swords r known for there raw dmg and tripleing there attack with the three time im a long sword user myself but i prefer to use the GS on slower enemies so i can three time them with more success so yea i love using the long swords but enjoy using the GS

720 Fire damage turned into 790 with my Rathian armor and 1200 raw damage. Needless to say, one-hit-sword-slapping low rank Great Jaggi is almost therapeutic.

Greatswords were the first weapon that I learned to be ''good'' at. I started with tri and I used GS for almost the entire thing. Watching someone be amazing with the GS is the best thing you can see in MH. It is a lot more difficult on very fast monsters and in a group though.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and the easier it is to hit 'em with my Great Sword. Holding one, most monsters are too big for their own good, Deviljho especially. But on a faster monster like Nargacuga, it's so satisfying to make them fall down. Zinogre and Agnaktor are good in-betweens for speed and size, and are my favorite monsters, both to fight and in general in Zinogre's case.

I have np using gs weps against fast monsters it simply just takes precise timing of ur attacks as well as watching 4 openings and striking at weak spots. Items helps also.

I would have thought by now we were past the arguments about what the best weapon types were...they all have there own unique advantages and playstyles. None of them are bad or good, even though some are OP.

@randy the insanely high elementals on GS aren't as good as you think. Because GS are slower weapons that trade off multiple hits for massive damage on each hit, the massive elementals are meant to compensate for this. However, with GS, you're definitely better off focusing on raw damage over elemental.

I do think GS and SA are the two best weapons to have at least one of in online, because of their massive damage potential and tail-cutting prowess. I personally will take a Power Phial SA in sword mode over a GS for tail-cutting(specifically Mizar's with 60% affinity) because they can get their attacks of much quicker, and in the time it takes to get off a GScharge slash can get off equal damage.

I don't know why people still think that Great Sword is so slow. First off, not every attack has to be a charged attack. Secondly, if you're going for a combo, then you'd be surprised at the Great Sword's DPS. It's all about the rhythm. When you know what order to land your attacks in and with the proper timing, you can even get off more damage than by charging. It's this perceived notion, guys.

Um, no you can't. GS DPS is much higher with charge attacks.

The frames to escape into a side roll aren't as great if you use charge attacks more often than regular ones. Unless you only use a few charge attacks, or at most, one. Keep in mind individual monsters' speed, and the optimal timing on whether to charge, or combo.

What most people forget is the monster in question being fought. They focus on its damage as a whole or in general that they overlook everything else. You can't count max possible damage on attacks alone. For instance, it's easy to charge attack a Duramboros, but comboing lessens the potential. Nargacuga, on the other hand, is best left combo'ed.

Or to put it another way, if you manage to land more than one consecutive charge attack on a Nargacuga without incapacitating it like with a trap, you deserve a high-five, bro.
