    Use water weapons! Ice if you can't. While it may seem silly, bring deodorants as they remove slime very quickly, and greatly reduces the chance of him blowing you up.

    I'll tell you what is less known than anything else, when he licks his hands and jumps, roll his way, also try to be aggressive and stay close to his feet unless he does his radial attack. (horn in ground, glowing spots appear)

    these are all great responses which fit me perfectly since i use a water based gunlance and water based hammer. 2 more thing, any good tactics for getting his tail and resentatens i should know about.

    His tail a practically impossible with out some Long Sword or Switch Axe user, as it it set rather high. Knocking him down rarely provides the time needed. As far as resistances go, I only know that his horn is weak to slice.

    Assuming the gunlance is cut, aim for the head and body the most, while aiming for the head and tail when shooting. If you're using a hammer, the head and body as well should be your main targets, as all of these are what it's weakest to as far as cutting, impact, and shots go. kiranico.com is a great resource for this kinda stuff.

    Stay away from him when he's enraged! (Arms and horn glow yellow) He's one of the most dangerous opponents when he's enraged. Nearly every attack causes explosions instantly!
