    To try to avoid PETA. They flipped because apparently Mario skinned a tanooki for its fur. A red cat suit would make it look like it was bloody.

    There are reasons acually more simple reasons the PETA thing dosnt even matter anymore everyone hates PETA for what they did but Mario's (Yellow) CatSuit is yellow because Nintendo wanted him to stand out from the rest of the players also Rosilina is a black cat instead of Light Blue but anyone old enough just chuckles at that same reason though so she stands out!

    Yes it's all I could think of that could make any sense ... though now that I think of it if Mario was a cat id imagine him as a Mancoon or Manx which are both Cats with yellowish fur.
