    its ure choice speed makes you go faster when u use a mushroom or a better boost when you land after doing a trick but accelaration makes u reach ure top speed faster after getting hit.

    Generally, the better you get at the game, the higher the value of top speed gets, as you won't be needing a fast acceleration for most things (except recovering after the odd unblocked Blue Shell or Lightning or a guard-broken Red Shell).
