Hello every one, so I was thinking which weapon do you consider a rookie weapon and which weapon takes true skills to use? this is sorta poll if you will.

  • No weapon is truly a "rookie" weapon, since all of them are all effective in the right hands. However, I'd say Sword & Shield is (very much intentionally) the easiest weapon type to learn, while Gunlance and Hunting Horn take the most time to learn.

  • for me, i think a gunlance is very hard to use, partly because my L and R buttons are both broken and that its slow, u only jump back instead of rolling and to me its confusing

  • yeah I know each weapon can be mastered, but I simply want peoples honest opinions if you had to choose.

  • The sword n' shield is the most user friendly and well rounded. All weapons have subtle nuances to them that require skill amd practice to use effectively. The weapons that require memory skill are bows, bowguns, and hunting horns. The gunner weapons are limited to what types of ammo/coatings they can use. Hunting horns use a variety of color codes for horn notes,

  • I think my main issue with Gunlance is that after getting good with Lance, the deceptive similarities between the two weapon types made the differences harder to adjust to. Gunlances provide less opportunities to dodge and guard than Lances, that's my main issue.

  • And the melodies and their effects vary from one hunting horn to another.

  • The Gunlance is pretty tough to get used to.

  • Gun Lance could be considered the most difficult if you consider all the types of ammos to use and attacks as well as ranges.

  • lol i thought gunlance was the easiest wep to master there was lol but i do main gunlance with about 950 uses which is about 3x the amount i have used any other wep

  • That makes sense, the first weapon one chooses to start with is bound to master it.

  • No wonder I completely wreck everything except Alatreon, Jhen Mohran, and Brachydios with Lance.

  • Rookie weapon: without hesitation I'd say dual blades. While it does require some skill to master, the learning curve for it is pretty easy. As for one that requires skill, I'd agree with HH requiring skill as well as memorization. Also, as you upgrade them most of them, the note colors and melodies change so it's something you have to adjust to.

  • Nice choices,I would say the long sword is a easy weapon to master, the lance on the other hand takes more strategy and patience to use becuase of how slow you are and the dodging isn't as great as the regular dodge, but the shield makes up for it.

  • I'll second LS being a rookie weapon, though, I'd place it at number 2. And agreed with Lance requiring skill. I've tried using it and I just never got the hang of it. However, I am pretty decent with Gunlance. At least when soloing. I'm always afraid I'll get in people's way and/or knock them aside if I use GL online.
