Just looked into this. Apparently the game is playing it's music faster than both the European and Japanese versions (the original Wii was as well). If given a choice I'd rather have the Japanese original, but I don't think that this is something that Nintendo would even consider a problem, let alone make such a huge effort to fix for a handful of us whom it bothers. We can always try though.

  • I don't think it's even possible to fix it. It acts the exact same as it would when being played on a real North American NES, so the only fix would be to get the original Japanese version which is very unlikely. The sound doesn't bother me too much, though, and it's at least sounds better than speeding up the European version of Blaster Master.

  • This game is great. Forgotten gem

  • I might be the only one with this opinion but I actually like the music speed up rather than how the music is originally.

  • Maybe Sunsoft will release a HD version someday. Even though they haven't updated their American website in years, we can still hope.

  • @Connor It may be natural when transferring it from PAL to NTSC, but the NES did not speed up Famicom games. For instance Probotector might have ran at 50hz, but both the NES and Famicom Contra ran at the same 60hz speed, and this was always the case until this came to Wii VC. @Thingle Well adding an obscure import game to Wii U's VC (and Blaster Master to 3DS) is a good sign for Sunsoft.

  • @Nicholas This game is a special case. This isn't the Japanese ROM, it's the European ROM as this game was never released in the US. The English version was PAL optimized, meaning it was sped up so when played at 50Hz it would play at the same speed as the 60Hz NTSC Famicom version. When you put this ROM on an NTSC NES or Famicom though, it's going to run 17% faster than it should.

  • See I wouldn't want the same thing to happen with Terranigma, so I can understand why it bothers some people.

  • Oh don't misunderstand, I think this issue is absolutely ridiculous too. There's no reason they can't implement a timing setting that every open source fan made NES emulator has to allow you to switch between PAL and NTSC timings to make the game run at the correct speed.

  • But at the same time I'd wanna try playing Probotector games to see the differences.

  • The only real difference is the name and sprites being changed and the game running 17% slower due to it not being PAL optimized. The Famicom version is nicer though as it has an expansion chip that allows for more background animations among other things.
