It wasn't publicized by Nintendo but, the maximum number of points can now excede 9.999. In addition, points are now talllied differently to compensate for the fact that tons of points were rewarded for a player`s amount of time played and not necessarily for the amount of skill used It's being deemed cntroversial, because it cuts both ways: fewer points rewarded, but more taken away. Opinions?

  • The biigest headache seems to be surrounding uneven online match making. I saw alot of comments in the article saying many wished all players points were reset to zero. But in the end, lederboards will start being adjusted by the new system.

  • I'm at 7200 on my gaming account. I've seen people in the 10000 ever since the update, one of them just dropped to 9600 before my very eyes. I think people wishing for a reset are out of their minds. You guys should have been there day one just like the lot of us.

  • At my level, points are hard to get by, and that makes obtaining them rewarding. When you're at 5K easily going up, you think being at 9K is an easy yet painstaking task. But when you reach 7K and can't go up no matter how much you play, you understand that 9K is in fact a real accomplishment. Unfortunately, some rack up points by preying on beginners, but it's fun to expose them on Youtube.

  • I agree a reset is out of the question. I for one could care less about point totals. I've raced poorly and gotten 1st-3rd and earned lots of points, converseley I've raced with skill, placed in the bottom tier, without scoring lots of points, but ultimately felt like I had a better race. The game has god balance, but when U factor in random items, luck plays a big part too.

  • VR should be about skill in the first place, an in-race compilation of relative lap times, item accuracy, and percent time on track as opposed to off-course (where Lakitu is required). ...and somebody please kill off fire hopping...

  • Have the base factor be set to the lowest common denominator: the racer with the lowest VR. This way those creeps get docked points racing against much lower VR racers...BUT if you do that, Nintendo, then add a filter option to those online matches so they can find those suited for their skills...and even an option where they can race anyone but their VR will not factor into the race (no points).

  • I totally agree. Stupid people who are really good pwn other people that arent very good at the game(Noobs). Im one of the mid-ways people who are good then not at times. Not to mention hackers who give them selves infinite points so they cant lose much when they come in last place. Once again the skill level pairing option is a really good option. Nintendo should add that option to all games.

  • Ugh, do U think hackers are prevelant? I feel bad when I look up a game hint, let alone cheat or take advantage of other miis. It's a game! and not cheating should be an unwritten rule.

  • Wait, you mean there's a way to hack the game for points? I know some people must be hacking in some way because fire-hopping was patched and now it's back in full force.
